When everything just feels right during our everyday life, we are in a
state of flow. Flow is being engrossed in whatever we are doing, when we
loose all sense of time and place. It isn’t until we venture out of the
state that we think: "That’s awesome! I have to do that again".
According to the researcher Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, flow is one of the
pillars of life quality. The feeling of flow is absolutely worth
pursuing, as it is: "The full commitment to these flow activities that
create an exquisite life and not the pursuit of happiness".
To dance is, according Csikszentmihalyi, having a flow-experience.
Through dance the fantastic feeling of "simply being" is achieved. To be
able to feel the "now" one hundred percent. The feeling of flow is also
described as a place "where self-absorption disappears and still you
feel empowered physically". In these situations, "the physical and the
mental energy unite in a joint focus and life provides a better scope
for its ability". Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi: "Finding Flow - The Psychology of Engagement with Everyday Life" (Edited)
